Hello friends,

My daughter is 3 year 7 months old and she is in PP1. I want her to join in dance class. There is a Bharat Natyam dance teacher started coming in my apartment. She said my daughter can join as she teaches kids from PP1 or 4 yrs old. But i want to know what should be the correct age to start any classical dance classes as i read in internet that minimum age should be 7 for Bharat Natyam. Please respond with your suggestions.

Thanks,Barkha

Ideally kids need to be 6 years old to learn Bharathanatyam. The main reason that teachers give behind this is that the bones of kids would still be forming and the bone structure would not be completely formed until 6. But if the teacher keeps the classes to a very short duration and does not over load the child, then 5 years is fine.

But since the dance form involves stiff postures it is good if you can wait rather than risk any posture alterations in the child when she grows up.
