My son is see h delayed and is improving.Anybody moved from USA to Bangalore at this stage?i am hesitant to move as change of environment country may hinder his progress!any Body moved from USA to India with speech delayed kid,how was the transition ??plZ let me know.

You should be glad that you are moving to India since your son will have an oppurtunity to meet a lot of children which will help him improve in his speech. YOu can also take help from speech therapist in Bangalore.You can get more hours of therapy in here compared to there. I wish you a smooth transition !!!Finally its your hardwork and dedication that is going to help him with his speech. Wishing you the best.

Personally speaking I moved from usa to india 3 years back at that I did not know my son had autism. If I had known I would'nt have moved. Are you kidding me you cannot match the services available in USA to the one in india. Yes bangalore is good in services, but early intervention is the key, so I would suggest delay your move to 5 more years. Let your child slowly come to good level in this speech and then think about the move. Why does your child have delayed speech, there is nothing called speech delay alone usally there is the DX along with that, it can be ADHD, autism, SPD . My opinion since you asked.
Thank u Spacetime,He is 3 yrs old now from 0 words at 2 to 2-3 woed phrases now.Autism,ADHD SPD has all been ruled out.Thats the missconception people hav that thr no pure speech delay.It does exists language diisorder,in india also they call it SPecipic Language Impairment-SLI.
He didnt qualify for county therapies as ther assesments revealed normal scores,they say bilingualism is the cause for speech delay which i dont agree as all indian american kids should be speech delayed.
Anyways the reason for moving we didnt come to US with that intention of settling due to professional issues we cant settle here.Now as he doesnt qualify for services i hav to get him private speech therapy as he is still not to his peer level,which i cant afford insurance doesnt cover speech therapy.All these months he got speech therapy from early intervention which stops at 3 yrs age.
Thats y before moving i wanted to know the quality thr and also if the change of place will affect his speech??
I will b moving to Bangalore,as of now i hav postponed it for 6 months but want to get by dec.My elder son will b9+ yrs so it will b difficult to cope up with indian edu esp languages.
Do let me know if u know any parents in similar situation.

You are right. You can have a speech delay without a language impairment. But if your child has no motor impediment, his receptive language is on par with his peers and is able to communicate well (phrases, gestures, etc) there is a good chance that the delay is due to bilingualism. And yes, many Indian American kids have this delay. It is a natural process because at this age symbolic language and cognitive deveopment are intertwined. A young child exposed to two languages simultaneously is having to develop these cognitive skills in both languages and there is constant transferrence happening.
If you are looking at s possibility fo speech delay along with other language related issues such as specific learning disability personally I feel it is a little too early to tease it out (as your child is only 3 yrs old). Bangalore does have good speech therapy services (articulation and language needs) but keep in mind that individual pull out therapy is only part of the process. What he will need is for his teachers to reinforce those skills in the classroom and to ensure his peers serve as good language models.
