I have a 3 yr old son and I'm worried about his school admissions. I'm out of India but plan to come back by December 09.

There is hardly any information on the Internet regarding various schools, admissions, criteria etc. Only a couple of them (Thane schools) have their own website.

So here are my questions.

1. What are the options to Singhania highschool and DAV school?

2. How tough it is to get admission in Singhania highschool? Any specific preparation that could help in seeking admission?

Look forward to your guidance.

Thanks,

Hemant

Admission in singhanaia school for pre-kg is thru lot system...application forms will be available at school office on certain dates...Dav is also a good school and getting admissions won't be much of a problem...There are other good schools also in thane such as Hirananadini Foundation school(icse) and vasant vihar school(state board)..all the best..

Ok. I'm here for a couple of weeks. I have been to Vasant Vihar school and the nursery admissions are already closed. I plan to visit DAV tomorrow. As per the website the admissions were closed on Jan 31st. Still I'll give it a go.

Singhania Pre-KG ?? Do you mean nursery? I spoke to someone whose kid is already studying in there and he told me that they have Jr. KG and above. No nursery admissions.

Would help if you cud throw some light on it.

Hiranandani school is not an option as its far away from my place (Unless I relocate to Hiranandani Estates).

A friend of mine whose kid studies SSC told me that we won't be able to handle the pressure of an ICSE school (esp. with both of us working). He told me they have lots of projects that even a full-time parent finds difficult to complete.

Any inputs in that area would help too.

Thanks in advance.

Hope this discussion will help other parents trying to decode school admission's mystery in Thane.

Singhania school starts from Jr. KG as they do not have nursery.

One question here...I heard Vasant Vihar School is good in thane. Vasant Vihar means Little Flower school in Pokharan -2. Is it a convent school? Or we have any other school named as Vasant Vihar. I could not find any other school except Little Flower when I search on google with Vasant Vihar school.

There is one more school called Nalanda - it is near Hari om nagar. This school is by Soham Foundation. One of my neighbour's kid study in this school.

Vasant Vihar school is a SSC Board school.

Then there is Eurokids (Playgroup + Nursery)

Children's Nook

Billabong is in Wagle Estate.

DAV School has been the most disinterested school I have ever been to. I visted them last week. There was a person sitting in the corridor with a computer. His answer to all questions was standard... Ask in April...April... April and April.

Then I called them up. Someone picked up the phone and his standard answer was Enquire after March ... Enquire after March...Enquire after March. I don't know how to extract information from these people. I know the nursery admissions for this year are supposedly over in Jan 09. All I want to know is do my son stand a chance of getting admission to the nursery this year.

Anyway I'm going to Billabong tomorrow.

My nephews are studying at Vasant Vihar (State Board) and we find the school reasonably good.

Singhania (ICSE) at Phokran Road is also good. Admissions for Jr. KG and Sr. KG is by lottery (though they have special quota for JK Singhania Group employees and siblings) The admissions forms are online and results are also provided online. No need to visit the school for admissions at al!

Billabong High (ICSE) is a new school, Infrastructure wise its good but no idea on their staff and teachers. The fees of course are too high.

Little Tigers Playgroup & Nursuray is good option for pre-school.

CBSE and ICSE websites help you identify their affiliated and registed schools in every State and City.  Please do check online.

ICSE: http://www.cisce.org/

CBSE: http://www.cbse.nic.in/welcome.htm

Singhania School: http://www.singhaniaschool.org/

I have noticed that most schools charge too much (other than tution fee) for School Dress, Transportation, Extra activities - Dance, Drama, Computer Lab, Food etc. So consider these extras also if you want to know the actual costs.

Hi, we went to Universal High on Monday. The fees are steep at 39000 p.a. + transportation for Jr KG. The school building is still not fully ready. It is totally airconditioned (which I personally do not prefer). They do not have any playground of their own. There is a nearbly TMC ground which they say can be used by the school.

For admissions, they said that they will cater to first come first serve basis. They will keep you child under observation for about 3 hours and immediately thereafter confirm the admission.

Hi Amitabha,

I also went to Universal high for Nursary Admission. I aggreed what ever ur saying it correct but there is no other ICSE school for G.B Road People. There is Vasant Vihar school which prefper local first and SSC board they started giving forms for Nursary. DAV is too much rush i.e CBSE school. And Arunodaya School is CBSE I would like to know about Arunodaya School. Also it is deficult to choose the school CBSE or ICSE.

@ Muskaan: I was talking about Universal High in Thane

@Sonapar: I agree that there is not much choice in CBSE / ICSE schools. Arunodaya admissions I believe are over!! Lokpuram (CBSE) is still to give forms to outsiders. They will give forms for residents on 16th Nov. And you have to wait for Singhania which is going to announce on 01 Dec. BTW, Vasant Vihar is a good school though SSC.

Hi, All

We need to consider the Grading system which CBSE school will follow from 2009-10. How it will affect the addmission of CBSE students after 10th.

We had visited Vasant Vihar School few days back and we were told that this year there may not be any seats available for Jr.KG... I agree to 'bestdadayindaworld' opinion about DAV... their attitude just makes you think 'is it the right school for your kid?' However, when the choices are few... may be we have ignore these things!!!
