Hi all,

Kindly share your experience in teaching your ward. How did you introduce new subjects to your ward? This would be helpful for others is going to start now..

Useful books to teach on all subjects, useful websites for teaching and links for worksheets

I have 4 1/2 years old daughter who is very interested in orals but very slow in writing. I always receive only one complaint from her class teacher .. i.e. she is excellent in orals . she answers immediately when and what ever the teacher asks but very slow in writing. I can not blame my ward in it. from the beginning I ignored in writing skills I concentrated only reading not on writing. I always read aloud be it story books, bed time stories, science, EVS, (G.K) everything I use to read her a loud . I bought many books for English, G.K and story with lots of pictures in them. I used to explain her when ever she ask any question or gets any doubt with out scolding her. By god's grace, she is very much interested in reading now. But due to my negligence in writing skills, she is behind in it. but has good handwriting for her age…

I thought to get other parents experience in teaching wards. This may helpful for bingers. With my experience I have learnt one thing.. u should never force, scold or beat your ward while teaching this may lead your ward to hate the subject.

Share your thoughts and experience, books to teach…

Love,

Deepa

Manipulate her to write. Like, make her do doodles on a page, then find alphabets from them. You write a letter, then tell her to make that from clay, then tell her that now it is her chance and she will write a letter and you will make it from clay. Make greeting card with her and then tell her to write the message inside it to complete it... like HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAPA. You can play the alphabet race if you find another kid to paticipate of her age. In this, they pick up a chit, read the alphabet written on that chit, run to the other end, write it on the book kept there, return with the book. 'Writing' version of teacher-teacher, she is teacher and has to check books that have mistakes. So there are pictures and alphabets below them. Like, below picture of lemon, instead of L, it is written S. So she needs to cross that and write L. Give her a red pen to do the correction, she will love it, and within no time she would have (unknowingly) written A-Z. You have to sit with her while she is doing the correction because you will have to tell her that she needs to correct properly, like, not mix capital and small letter, write neatly because she is the teacher. Also, you can bribe her to make her write. Like, if she finishes a page of writing, and the school teacher approves of it, that is no mistakes and good handwriting, then you will make her favourite food or take her to the zoo...
