 hi all,

would like to take suggestions and advices especially from some doctor/paedtrician/ortho etc. my son who is 2 yr and 10 months old complaints of leg pains only at night say after 3 am. during the day time he runs and plays around and has no complaints . the first doc. i got him checked with, said that this is growth pain and it happens with some childrens and will be ok over a time but he still had the problem so i took him to other doc. who said that he has vitamin d deficiency bcaz v didnt show much sun to him. i started  giving him vit d syrup and egg which is the only source of vit. d in vegetarian food as i am veg. but still he complaints of leg pain at night some times daily at night or the alternate nights. Now again i took him to other ortho who took his detailed blood test and said his hemoglobin and iron is less and he also has some infection left back from the jondhis which he had when he was new born but all this is not related to his leg pain and he just gave iron syrup and brufin syrup for 5 days and told us to observe him and show him again if he still has problem. v kept thinking y to give brufin being a strong medicine 3 times a day so yesterday v gave him less than the dosage specified but then late night he again complained of leg pain. today is the 5 th day that v kept giving brufin now i dont know how he will be from tomorrow when v will not b giving brufin. Really worried for him, can somebody guide us give us ideas on this please..thank you, meenakshi

 Hi Meenakshi,

My sisters daughter who is now 5 years old also had the same problem until recently. She would wake up crying in pain at night, and my sis had to give some pain killer to ease off the pain. She would be absolutely fine during the day. She didn't get it every night, just on some nights. Even in her case, doctors couldn't diagnose anything, and they have come to the conclusion that its probably growth pains. For some time now, she hasn't got the pain.

I hope your sons problem is diagnosed soon, and that it goes off after some time, like my niece's.

 hai

my son is 2 yrs n 9 mths. he keeps running up n down always...occasionally he cries for leg pain. the reason is he continously palys without any breaks or rest. during the play he never realises the pain..it happens with elders also. only while going to bed at night we feel the pain.

1. before going to bed , make your baby take bath

2. apply coconut oil below waist to toes...pour tolerable hot water.like a massage

3.take a small quantity of rice ..boil it in hot water ffor 5-10 mins..extract that waterand at a tolerable level pour it from waist to toes ...its in rich source of vitamins..it gives strength to your legs.

 hi meenakshi,

Unfortunately, my niece is also not in India. She was checked by doctors in the uk, where health service is generally not too good. I don't think they did many tests, although I have to confirm this with my sis. I'm not sure when exactly my niece's problem stopped because, she didn't get it frequently. Only once a month or so - but when she got it, it would occur for two or three consecutive nights - day time she would be perfectly alright.

It was there until she was nearly 5.

I think it will be better if you get your child tested in India, as our doctors and health services are far better.

Hope your son's pain stops soon.

Hi Meenakshi,
I have joined the group recently and noticed the post.
One of my friend's daughter gone through similar issue.
In India doctors could not diagnose it right for her condition.
They live in USA and pediatrician in US referred to a pediatric rheumatologist.
to check if there is any inflammation in joints.
I remember pain was in mornings like at the beginning of the day.
Unfortunately the girl was confirmed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
I hope your son case is not that, but I would really encourage to see
a pediatric rhumatologist there. I may sound scary but just to rule out such a scenario.

Thanks.

 hi satin17,

thanks a ton for taking out time to post about that case..actually during july we went to delhi and there i showed my son to orthodent who told us to take xray and diagnosed it as rickets which is because of vit.D deficiency..he has given vitl. d. supplement to be given once in two weeks, then once in one month  and has told it to be continued for 9 months but also said that we will see the effect in 3 months..also told us to do the massaging ...so v r doing the massaging everyday and giving the medicines so lets wait and watch..thot can believe in one doc. only at one time..so just keeping fingers crosed and will wait and watch...in the mean time while doing continuous massaging he is not complaining of leg pain...only sometimes once in a while at night he is complaining of leg pain. so lets wait and watch..in the mean time trying to give all food sources of vit. d.to impleve the deficiency..
