Hi long tym back I did a similar pen holder..I share the same with you..

Select a size appr cardboard box...I had a sturdy charger box for my kids battery car and I used the same...rectangular or squarish.. choice is yours.. tear off the top side of the box...apply fabric paint of your choice..use 3-4 shades of complimentary colour..make it dry....now u have a muliticolured box..

use your creativity to decorate the box..I used alphabet stickers..trim the frayed edges of the box and seal it with coloured lace or use glittery cellophane tape.. i used winnie the pooh cello tape to add a childish hue..

oops.. sorry .. befor beginning the process.. add 2-3 layers of plaster of paris mix to make the base strong & sturdy..wait till it sets and then start the process..

U can also customise the holder by writing your kids name..use stencils or stickers or beads..umpteen options are there..if u r gud in painting..u can also paint the name..

Hi,

Here is the penholder which my son made with my help. It needs a cardboard box  or a plastic can, kitchen towel roll (for the neck), newspaper strips, glue, paint and some cardboard pieces cut into shapes.  It takes a long time. But the outcome is good. You can make any animal shape you want by cutting the cardboard in that shape and assembling them on the box. Then stick 2 or 3 layers of newspaper strips on the box and let it dry completely. Give a coating of gesso or any white paint to hide the newsprints. then start painting it using the color you want. We used plastic milk carton for the container. you can also use cardboard box or juice box.
