Today after watching a movie we were roaming around in the Mall and my children spotted Virendra Sehwag....my younger son and his friend got very excited, they took his autographs and even clicked each other on the phone standing next to this cricketing hero!
Sehwag had obviously come over shopping in the Food bazar for some groceries and though he was very obliging about signing all papers thrust in his direction, seemed quite irritated. Now my son began to crib about it later. He reminiscised when he had seen Jaya Bachan once and lapsed into critisising her snooty behaviour.
I felt a wee bit at a loss....celebrities are also people you know.....they must be getting so tired with all the attention...it must be frustrating some time to not be able to shop peacefully for sabji or watch a movie peacefully...
But on the other hand, children are also children, if they spot their cricketing hero, how else will they react but with excitement...
So i tenedered a soft non intrusive apology to Sehwag from a distance, and also gently explained to my son not to be harsh in judging the man for his non enthusiastic expression and demeanour..
I'm sure soon the pics these boys clicked will take their place with pride on their respective facebook pages, and some time in the future when Sehwag is older and new heros are getting all the attention and adulation, he will look back nostalgically at the time when young energetic boys would not let him do even grocery shopping in peace :)
