My son has just returned from BITS Pilani for an end semester vacation. While still on their way, the boys(my son & his friends) called from the taxi wanting to discuss what food they shall get for dinner. After months of Mess food they are not only looking forward to home cooked food, but also the gourmet experience of Delhi's resturants....the days ahead will have to have right balance of rajma chawal, butter chicken, mushroom pasta, alloo & methi paranthas, shredded lamb and Heaven knows what else...ofcourse there shall also be burgers & pizzas...
One trip to Big Chill - this Italian resturant in Khan Market is always a delightful experience. The baked potatao with mushroom or chicken stuffing is a great starter along with a pitcher of iced tea or ginger fizz....go on after that to delectable pastas and bakes...no disappointments there, only fulfillment!
Ego at New Friends Colony has the most amazing Risotto....its a place where you can sit and enjoy not only the meal but also the our time music that the DJ dishes out.....children are happy with the food and we with the food and the music :)
The Buffet Lunch at the Mainland China in Greater Kailash is a good idea for people with large apetites and desirous of variety. Ofcourse the favorite starter of golden fried corn kernels is not on the buffet menu, so a la carte dinner has its own attaraction, especially since the chocolate rolls as desert are so very yummy for kids....that they keep refilling your cup of jasmine tea is also good for the mummies!
If the mood isn't to step out, burgers from Mc Donalds, or chinese meal from Yo China or an Italian spread from Slice of Italy are some very desirable order in options.
Now with Green Chick Chop delivering not just meats but also ready to eat foods, spice up the home cooked fare by opening their kali daal, which is always a hit with the children. There are frozen malabar paranthas too...when you need something in a jiffy..
Dominos pizzas are a non messy way to feed the jamming musicians at home....its hard enough sometimes holding on to your sanity with the electric guitars blazing and the drums pounding, heavens forbid if one had to also set up a meal at the table....with the pizzas going into the same room where the jamming is happening, the disturbance is localised and contained....
There is of course the good old Sagar Ratna for south Indian fare of dosas and idlis....now toh they even serve appams, which my younger one says he prefers to the idlis...
Then there is HaldiRams, with its large spread ranging from Pao Bhaji, to daal chilla, to paneer tikka, to lachcha tokri...any vegetarian and chaatitarian's delight!
Yeah...it all sounds oily and greasy and not so healthy...order a Sub from Sub Way, as nutritious as it can get...my son loves the meatball sub, while the vegetarian me goes for the veggie delight with out cheese....remember the prime motivator for this was health!
There is definitely no substitute for the Hot Chocolate Fudge from Nirulas...they even deliver just one!
