My favourite home remedy!

Apr 13, 2009 9:52 PM Share

when my son catches cold cough, this is my favorite home-remedy...and it never fails me!!

a tbsp honey+ pinch of blackpepper 3-4 times in a day. lots of lukewarm water to drink throughout the day...i have seen this working like magic for cough..blackpepper takes the sting out, while honey soothes the throat.

i also use peppermint oil+ lavender oil+ teatree oil(all in equal proportions) on chest, throat and nose.it relieves the congestion.

Aanchal,

you could try this remedy too. For every one portion of balck pepper corn, take 4 portions of gud. Make a coarse powder of the pepper corns and mix it with gud. Make small pellets and let your son eat these.

Thanks Aanchal. Now my daughter's cough is gone and I caught it form here. I have tried all the below home remedies but nth seems to be working.. :(
additionally because of severe cold and cough, my face (forhead, jaws etc) are also paining...and the docs here (UK) never give any medcines..thts the worst part.. hope continuing the remedies below will provide some sort of relief..

Even though my daughter is suffering from runny nose for the past 2 months, the docs havent given any medicines..In India, probably they wud have given 2 sets of antibiotics by now..Probably because of the climate here, kids are more prone to cold..

hi, i missed your post somehow and saw it just now while browsing.
your daughter must be better now, but still to clarify your doubt...no need to roast b/pepper.

for dry cough, i find two things very effective:
1) massage of hot ghee + vicks on chest. (take it in a bowl, ask your kid to lie down on bed, keep a burning candle nearby, take the mixture in your palm, heat your palm over the flame, massage your kid's chest, neck, back with it immediately. repeat several times)

2)dry roast cloves, nutmeg and black cardamom. grind them. add some palm candy (unrefined mishri) and store the mixture in an airtight container. for dry cough, take a pinch of mixture +1 tbsp honey and give it to the kid.(this shouldnt be given to a kid below 1.5-2 yrs of age as its very hot)..for small kids, rub nutmeg on grinding stone and add a drop of paste in honey and give

aanchal, i was just checking this home remedy...my daughter has severe cold and cough since yesterday. i hv pepper powder at home. Should we roast it before mixing with honey? she has phlegm inside (i can listen when she is coughing). Does this remedy work well for even such cases or this works only for dry cough?
