Its very important for a working mother to be in a workplace which is flexible about working hours, work from home options etc . Fortunately I work for a company which is pretty accommodating. I gave up my job when i was 6 months pregnant and i started looking for work when my son was 8 months. I couldnt find anything right until he was 1.5 yrs But today i am so glad that i didn't choose the other job openings in haste. I always used to wonder is this job worth sacrificing my time with the kid. If the answer is NO , i wouldn't take up the opportunity.
My work place now is 10 mins away from my home. I have a nanny who looks after my son after school. And I go home for lunch and check on how he ate his meal. I get home by 5.30 ensure that i take my son for play for sometime and then spend rest of the evening with him. He is 4 yrs now and i am expecting my 2nd baby in couple of months. This time i want to somehow manage without leaving this job. I will perhaps work from home for few months after my maternity break before i get back to full time. But to cut the long story short , work place flexibility makes hell lot of difference.
I am in Indiranagar Blore. Good Day Care depends on the age of the child and your expectations. I found Podar Jumbo Kids nice for one big reason that the food is prepared fresh and planned nutritiously. Even for a fussy eater, this can be a good place to tune into. Regarding activities, they donot have any fixed schedule or syllabus; but yes, they engage the kids with lots of dance nd music. At the end of the day, you can see the smile on kid's face. For school or daycare best thing is to visit these places during their regular working hours nd try to get the feedback from parents during the pick up or dropping time without hesitation. Its worth the effort honestly !!!
Really nice discussion...RevB good one! Malleshwari.....nice to know u r handling all so methodically. You are from which area from bangalore..recommend any daycare which you feel is good & conduct balanced activities.
hmmm...actually, its both ways. She being 5+, its easy to guess and also make her share the daycare schedule. Till 5, I didnt try daycare. But, when I c the other mommies of 1+ babies dropping them in daycare. I find it nice. Because, they learn a lot and feel they become independent quite early. (considering a professional and passionate day care centers). They should love tobe with kids and that makes all the difference.
@ Malleswari..... i liked the way u manage.... but how do u keep watch on daycare activity.. is is surprise visits and all.... or ur lil one will update u on how was her day @ daycare...
Hi...I opt for a good day care and regarding the activities, I research a lot and make a list of activity centers who does conduct classes on weekends. Its like fun and activity weekend. Not just that, I make many compromises on career front tobe slow sometimes by not spending extra hours in office and ensuring I reach home early in the evening. I many times miss trg sessions and attend only the most imp ones and rest all are taken offline. Cooking is done for the day much before our day begins(even before my kid gets up from the bed) and rest all common time is with her and her activities. And yes, lots of spy runs around the day care center at various times on various days till I get confidence and even after that random checks to c if she is happy.
