Shopping list - New baby

Here is a handy list of items that you will find useful in your preparation for a new Indian baby.

Equipment

• Tote bag that you can stylishly carry when taking your baby around
  • Make sure it can fit a half a dozen diapers, diaper changing pad, wet wipes, spare set of clothes, spare baby blanket, pacifier etc.,
• Car seat
• Stroller/Pram
• Baby monitor
• Crib & crib mattress & waterproof liner for the crib
  • Even if baby sleeps with you in the night, it maybe useful to put your baby in a safe crib at other times

Fabrics

• Onesies (one-piece cotton clothing for baby)
• Soft cotton sheets and blankets which are not fluffy
• Soft cotton towels
• Soft cotton blankets to wrap baby in
• Head cap or hat
• Cotton socks

Health & Hygiene

• Diapers
• Wet wipes
• Easily cleanable diaper changing pad (plastic)
  • Don't ignore this. Many children think the best time to pee is when the diaper had been opened for parents to take a look. This pad helps minimize the cleanup.
• Diaper rash cream
• Thermometer
• Baby soap or homemade natural alternative
• Baby shampoo
• Baby nail cutters
• Pacifiers
• Massage oil (Natural sesame oil is a great choice)

Toys

• High contrast toys with primary colours
• Toys that make soft sounds when rolled or moved
• Mobiles
• Toys with human face features like eyes
• Toys with simple designs (straight lines, simple shapes, bull's eye etc.)
