PD great post !

You bring up a concern which is almost universal now. However it is a double edged sword.

The AP program is to challenge the high achievers and if it wasn’t there I can vouch that a lot of spark would go unidentified in this part of the world, just because the regular public school academic standard does not demand much. The AP program has been set-up just so the ones who have the fundamentals covered can then move forward and cover more before they reach the undergrad program.

Unfortunately many put themselves through the additional challenge just to keep up with the peer pressure (and competition) not knowing when to stop or what choices to make. Trust me there are choices that you can make to ease the load without burning yourself and still make a good AP score.

Both my husband and I went through aggressive graduate programs here in the US. Mine was a higher ranking one (among one of the top few) and the pressure/competition was HUGE. My husband kind of enjoyed his program which was not as much cut throat but made sure he made the most of the learning while there. AND Both of us at the end of the day landed in similar jobs with similar pay package.

In a nutshell it is up to your discretion to make your pick from the choices that exist.

At least they exist, which is not the case in so many countries.
