I have a new found admiration for the women of the house who deal with Children. The amount of patience they have dealing with constant demands of the children is amazing in the light of my inability to do so!
I'm surprised at myself for I consider myself to be a fairly patient man! I derive a tremendous amount of joy and energy playing with my children. I found my waterloo this weekend when a constant barrage of demands from my either children to tend to them went on and on for ten hours non stop with no let up. I could not rest , relax or even vent my anger at not being able to have a few precious moments to myself when I could just watch few minutes of news.
I was busted by the end of the day and slept off before my children when I was putting them to bed! Boy! It was scary asking my wife whether my child slept first or I did. She gave one big hmmff.. and said..
' Since When have you slept after your child..'
"No, Actually yesterday was different",
I tried telling, but once was enough and here I was branded and accused of sleeping before my child for ever
There is always this constant fight for what I'm doing, If i sit in front of the TV, my child wants to watch Ceebeebies just then,
'Pappa I want Fimbles'..hufff.. there goes my tv
If I sit down on my laptop, the little one turns up and asks for rhymes on the youtube.
If i open my keyboard for messing with some tunes, it is promptly grabbed out of my hand.. .it is mine!!! I wont give you shouts my little one. No amount of 'Please' ing will work!
I try telling stories to make take the little one take an after noon nap, three stories pass and you are yawning from sheer boredom of telling the same story daily . I try varying to story to keep my brains awake for inventing a twist in the plot. But no! my child will hear none of it. It has to be the exact same story it was the first time! By the time the stories are done, I'm drowsy from the monotonosity of the narration. But the child is bright as ever, one jump from the bed and gone! scene cuts to mummy appearing on the scene with a accusatory look!
." cant put a child to bed?"
"No, the child does not seem to be sleepy " i try telling..
"hmm this is the daily routine. how can the child not be sleepy?" pat comes the question..
I doze off resigning myself to my incompetence as a father...
I wake up and find my child sleeping. I ask my wife about it..
"Oh the child was asleep ten minutes after you dozed off" tells my wife.. I watch her my mouth agape..
" tenminutes? i spent fifty telling nice stories" i mumble to myself.
".. yeah thats the problem, you tell such elaborate stores that you make sleep go away.." tells my wife.
now my value add is the whole problem i'm taught
Evening comes and we plan to go out, my little one wants to have Pizzas. Alright lets go to this new pizzeria that has opened up in the neighbourhood i said and we started off.! I had read about it in the papers!
We drive around and could not find the place, a few calls are made and no one seems to know where it is, by this time my child senses all is not well and starts bawling in the car! Boy! My head was reeling!
"Waaaaa, I want pizzaaaaaaaaaa.... you are taking me home instead.....waaaa"
No amount of cajoling that pizza will come for dinner as promised helps! I carry on the conversation with my wife and decide on an alternative location!
Finally we place the orders and again the screaming starts,
"where is the pizza?" cries the little one!
"It will come my dear, they are making it"..
"Waaaa.. no, mamma always has food ready when i come to the table..."
" no my dear.. restaurants dont work that ways.. "
"Waaa.a........."
ufff... I have already given up all of my reserve energy goes up in fumes
another twenty minutes and I was dead while my wife was tending the other one with little or none of my frustration or tiredness on her face and It was a moment of truth!
I'm sure this must all be in a days work for the ladies too! But boy! they are adept at this, the stories, places may vary but the children and tantrums surely must remain!
I bow to the almighty woman who does this day in and day out and also takes care of her other duties at home and work!
