Hi,

As per CBSE, the child should be 5+ for 1st standard (all KVs i.e Central Schools across India follow CBSE and this cut off). I guess the upper limit is 7 for 1st standard in KVs, I am not sure about this. Also, many schools have their own admission criteria. I have seen the min. age criteria for LKG ranging from 3.3 to 4 yrs by June in schools across India. The max. age criteria is something you can check from the school.

If you want your child to continue with Play Group and do not want her to go to LKG next year, its your personal choice. CBSE/Govt will not force you to put your child in LKG next year. You know your child best, and if both you and child are comfortable with Play group, then try for LKG later on.

Which school/when to send to school/how to raise your child are all personal choices and decisions and you as a parent have the right to decide.

All the best!

Hi ReshmySuresh,
I completely agree with HappyMum. CBSE schools age criteria ranges from 3.3 to 4+ . It all depends on us.

Your child would 3.5 and 8 days by 1st June'11 and is eligible for LKG admission in CBSE schools.  However ICSE schools prefer only 4+ for PP1/ LKG. If you feel your child can cope up, pl go ahead else talk to the school management about the upper age limit for class 1. Please don't go by anybody's version. You can write to the CBSE or ICSE board too and find out the details.

In any case , even if you join your child at 4.5 in LKG( in Jun'12), she will be 6.5 by 1st June '14  . I don't think you will have any problem even if you plan to join her in LKG at 4.5yrs.

Rgds,
Mickey

Hi,

Please check the KV site on admission criteria:

http://www.kvsangathan.nic.in/faq-adm.doc.

Look at point 5: The min age for admission to a KV is 5 yrs by March 31st. However, if the child’s age is not in excess of 2 years as compared to the qualifying age , the child is eligible for admission. No relaxation beyond two years is allowed. This means that the child should be between 5 yrs and 7 yrs as of March 31st for admission to 1st std in a KV.

For private schools, you will have to check with the school on the min and max ages. (Most of the schools have their own criteria...)

Hui,

Check cbse site.

http://www.cbse.nic.in/welcome.htm

do a search in the site for age for First standard.

As per the first link comes op , It is a judgement copy of High court stating clearly 5 years 6 months for First standards and accordingly.

The CBSE rule is that child should complete 15 years 10 months by the time he/she writes the xth exam.
