my son 2 1/2 yrs is a poor eater.
he is under weight /height.
how to improve ? can any one sugest me spl food/tonics for his growth
first check out few things like: intestinal worms(very common and very bad for health), water intake(at least 1litre fluid daily), calcium intake(u can give chewable tablets-for kids, like sandoz), motions(constipation/ loose motions, both affect appetite)
some ideas for meals:
-whole wheat bread instead of maida bread (the ingredients on the packet should say 'whole' wheat, not just wheat)
- whole wheat pasta and veggies in white sause (coarsely mashed)
-maggie with lots of finely chopped veggies
- paav bhaaji- with less spices of course (it is an excellent source of all veggies)
- make a powder mixture of almonds, cashewnuts, pista and walnuts. add it to milk while boiling. strain it before u give the milk.
- same mixture in all kinds of porridge u make for him(sooji, saabudana, ragi, oatmeal porridge)
- honey, instead of sugar, in milk
- mix boiled potatoes/ carrots/ peas in dough for his chapati
- aatta chila, besan chila, soyabean chila with tomato-ketchup faces on them
he may not be liking the taste of the food u serve(hard to believe!). some children are more fond of sweet dishes, while some like spicy. find out what yr son likes more..(chocolates or spicy pickles!!) that will guide u how to serve tasty items with hidden nutrition
invite his friends over for snacks/lunch..kids tend to eat better when they see other children eating
do not serve big portions. kids get turned off by seeing huge servings in their plates. instead serve little at a time. do not insist or cajole him into 'finishing' the meal. kids do not like the pressure to finish. in any case, do not make him feel guilty for not finishing. he will eventually pick up from here.

(pssst...your son may have a natural disposition towards thin body-structure, in which case, he is less likely to gain much weight...also, check out with the doc if he is really underweight..we moms tend to perceive our babies as underweight, if they are not too fat!!)
u can also give him homeopathic alfalfa tonic (pediatric)- if u believe in homeopathy..it is an excellent tonic.

nothing long lasts. valid for only 2 days in his menu. then, he just won't turn back.

My baby is 2 years 3 months and is also underweight and under height. He is 9 kgs and 81 cms. As far as weight is concerned, his pediatrician told us that if he is active and eating well, we must not worry, but as parent I can very well understand what you might be going through. Consult a good Pediatric Endocronilogist around your area. You can try "Pediasure" in milk or water. We also keep giving our child sneak-in calories in between meals, like rasins, cashews, fruits, even healthy buscuits anywhere anytime, something he can hold and eat and also enjoys but not very heavy, otherwise they will not take meals properly. Instead of giving your child 3 big meals you can divide it into many small meals. B/w just get him urine checked and also ask your doctor for deworming. Height is something that can change drastically over the years and also depends on parents' height. Make your child run or be physically very active, participate with him on daily basis to play some running or jumping or cycliing games. If he is a choosy eater give him what he wishes to eat more that what you want him to eat. Slowly he will also start liking other stuff. Banana, eggs and mango are extremely healthy fruits, which we give our child everyday,
i am curious what the doc says regarding his growth..
children lose appetites with certain worms and no amount of tonic will help unless you deworm them. also, if there is a tendency to get constipated often, appetite suffers. some children, do not wish to eat if they have frequent lose motions. talk to yr doc about the possibility of worms, high BMR, low hb.

Apart from what I had mentioned earlier, your child's weight is perfectly normal with respect to his height, so probably it is the height which might be his problem. In this case do ask your Pediatric Endochrinologist about his growth hormones also apart from Urine culture and deworming. As a mother, I used to really get worried for my child, but now I have realized that I can only try and hope for better. If your child doesn't fall sick often and is generally happy and active, then relax.
he don't fall sick often.
Loose motion once in six months, that too only when he consumes unwanted things.
We are vegeterian. doc says, worming occurs often, only for non veg taking kids.
his stmoach out loook is normal(not big), he don't claim any pain. doc refuses to give de-worming tonics for him.anyway, suggest me any best..i'll try 1 or 2 doses

You can get his urine tests done, also ask the doctor about his growth hormones and make sure that his pediatrician is specialized in "Endocrinology". As far as worms are concerned, any kid can get them as they play in sand or can put their hands in their mouth after touching something not so clean or anything like that. Even we are vegetarians, but have de-wormed our son once, but then of course doctors would know more and without their concent, we must not do anything ourselves.
Ghee can be added in at least 2 meals of his. If your child likes mango, then you can try mango shake, there you can add milk, but no sugar. Anything that can be added with milk can be given or curd, paneer, cheese, lassi (sweet/salty) etc. are also good source of calcium, but if he doesn't like all this also, then some calcium and multivitamin syrup should be given.
As I had mentioned earlier, I think his weight is fine with the height he has, so probably once his height increases, his weight will also increase. You can check for height-weight chart, which is independent of age.
Since he doesn't fall sick often, that means he is otherwise a healthy child. With his food habits, don't get upset, keep on trying new ways, like put on his favourite cartoon show while giving him meals or new cups or bottles for milk or making him eat with some neighbour's kids etc.

My nehew is Somu ,5 years old and he weighs 11 kg and he is even short in height compare to my other nephew Aayush who is 1 year younger to him and weighs 12 kg at age of 4 years and even height of Aayush is proper dan somu what can be problem is der for for somu is not increasing in height and weight

@Raj, your son's height and weight perfectly match each other and for his age. Yes, he is on the lower range, but these numbers are normal for his age. Height depends on various factors such as hormones, genetics, nutrition etc. Are you and your wife very tall? If you both are of average height, his height fits in with yours. For a normal child you can't do much other than giving a healthy diet to increase height. An active 2 yr old would not need gymnastics or vigorous exercise! They usually keep themselves busy!! now at almost 3.2 yrs old my daughter is 90cm and 12kg. she can pass out for 2 yrs old. most of the 2 yrs are way taller and haftier than her. looking at my cousin's daughter i believe one child has his/her own pace of growing. my daughter has been so far very lively and healthy... only that she's a picky eater

Some times she looks very tired. She does not like to take fruits and not even juices. She takes lot of time to finish her food. She needs some new toy or new thing which attracts her attention and I should say that if you won't take food you will miss that. If I failed find a item which attracts her attention, she will surely skip the lunch/dinner for that day.
I am a working mother, where I could not spend hours to feed her.
Could anyone please help me.
