We want to know is sri sri ravi shankar vidya mandir a good school. We are thinking of enrolling our child, age 6 yrs in std 1.

My son studies in the same school in std. 1, but I am very disappointed with the school and thinking of taking admission in some other school.  But since he is studying there from nursery, it is very difficult for me to change the school.  Pre-primary section was too good, but since this year, we (other parents of his classmates) are facing lot of difficulties, may be because of new infrastructure.  I hope there will be improvement from next year.

Hello Pallavo,

Since you are saying infrastructure problem(water supply, bathrooms) etc or some thing else. In any case, wll they teach Yoga from childhood onwards ? Any sports and extra curricular activities.? How is the quality of education for 2nd std. Any donation ?

pls do let us know, what is one good thing about this and one bad thing about this school.? Does anyone knows about Cambridge school, Kandivali - quality of education, sports, music ?

If you are looking out for a school in Kandivali, just check out for Gundecha High school.   About Sri Sri Ravishankar, they do teach yoga, shloka from the childhood, taekwondo is the only extra curricular activity they are having in the school.  Other activities like chess, mallakhamb and skating are conducted in the school, every saturday, but there is no school bus facility available and we are charged extra fees for these activities.   Donation for admission in any std. was Rs.25,000/- till last year or so but I have heard that it is increased to Rs.40,000/- Please check it out.

Good things  about this school is that they teach yoga and shloka from nursery. They have satsang for children every Thursday.  Bad thing about the school is from std. 1, they start at morning 7.30 a.m. and leave at 2.00 p.m. with only two breaks, one ten minutes break at 7.50 a.m. and the other 30 minutes break at 10.00 a.m.  As the children have to leave for school at 7.00 a.m., they are not able to eat anything before leaving and small children till 3 or 4 std. cannot manage to complete their tiffins within 30 minutes and they have thier lunch only after 2.30 p.m.,  this is the main cause of worry for us.  When I had taken admission, they had chess as a subject which I thought was an advantage but till my son reached std. 1, it was taught only as an extra curricular acitivity.  We stay in borivali west and the school is in the east, so I had to take him till the school, wait for one hour then come back which is very inconvinient and expensive.  Competitions conducted in the school are also not conducted properly.   About the quality of education, this is the first year of the school in the new building, so the school started at the end of July.  Later, the school had closed down for almost ten days because of the swine flu,  So they were in a great hurry to complete the portion and we (both children and parents) were totally confused, which still continues.  I hope this will not continue next year.

SSRVM  Borivali school is good only for preprimary. My daughter is studying  in this school.I am not satisfied at all. A lot of favouritism is done, there is no opportunity for shy kids. The mission statement is not adhered to ,it is only for preaching not practising. From this year all students were not considered for participation in annual function. We keep on seeing the same faces. What they say in the orientation programme is not followed.etc etc.

I fully agree with all your views.   Our experience in pre-primary was good (may be because they had no building and hence less students).  Till last year, we had two divisions with almost 20-23 students in a class but now in std.1, we have 2 divisions with 40-43 students.  (we were promised only 20 students in a class in orientation programme).

Thanks for this discussion. I was advised by a practicing member of AOL to admit kids to this school and I live in Malad.

I thought maybe the school is really that effective as she said but it seems all the issues start from logistics which are not managed properly in any institute today in India

however your thoughts have helped me look elsewhere now

I need to identify a good pre-school for my 2YO daughter in Malad.

Any suggestions please? I am not sure and aware of preschools at all and am as good as a novice in this aspect.

thanks
