Hi Everyone,

I have a son of 16 year old, who is autistic. Can anybody suggest me a good residential school for him, anywhere in Karnataka, though first preference is Bangalore.

Regards,

Dinesh

 hi,

Could you kindly tell me if your your child has been taking any treatment/ therapy for autism? I am not too sure if there are residential schools available for him. But you could try sendig him to a centre that offer therapies, they are equally good. There's one on Infantry road, The Play Therpy Cetre. It provides special modules for children with Autism and Asperger’s syndrome focusing on social skills, school survival strategies, communication skills and interactions with peers besides modules to improve cognition, co-ordination and self awareness.

Here, the therapist systematically uses play to communicate with the child and utilizes the play room with a wide range of toys and activities to help facilitate creative and emotional expression. Children are given an opportunity to express themselves with a variety of styles such as art therapy, sand play, dramatic play and fantasy play to develop cognition, motor skills, and emotions.

Hi Namratha,

Thank you for giving very valuable suggestion.  We tried various treatment for autism for my son, including Dr. Suresh Rao Arror's clinic Parijma on double road, Dr. Ashok Pai in Shimoga, Dr. Gunawant Oswal's G-Therapy, Dr. Madan of Ashwin Homoeo Clinic in Banashankari, NIMHANS, Yoga therapy at S-VYASA in JIgani and so on.  Finally we have understood that no medicine can cure him and we have to focuss more on counselling and interactive sessions.  Hence he was removed from normal school and admitted to Spastics Society of Karnataka.  He is physically very good and strong.  Some people are suggesting Yoga also.

I will contact the numbers given by you.  Many thanks for your wonderful suggestion.

Regards,

Dinesh Kumar

Hi Dineshkumar,

Sorry to hear about your son. My son has also the same diagnosis and I'm worried about the future for him. Some are lucky that their children made it to mainstream. Just would like to know , have you tried homeopathic, ayurvedic and biomed treatments also for him?

I'm not aware about residential schools for autism specifically. There are homes for the mentally disabled, but I think that may not be the place where you want to place your child?. You can join IDD(Indian developmental disabilities) yahoogroups and post this query, you may get more and precise help.

Hi NJ,

Thanks for your reply.  I haver tried Homeopathy and Ayurvedic but no improvements.  I have tried Biomedical treatment.

I will join IDD in yahoo groups and try.

Thanks again,

Dinesh Kumar

My sisters son is 19yr old and autistic. They live in US. Earlier he used to take Tegratol 8tablets per day but after following Varma therapy he is now off pills..He is physically very able - plays basket ball, lot of house hold work, swimming..I have seen him coming up from 0 to great heights all credits go to my sister..

I wont say varma therapy itself has done it..She used to take it whenever she visits India..But I heard her saying it helped..

You may try:

1.Vermam therapy: http://www.ari.org.in/VarmamTreatment

artsresearchinstitute@gmail.com .. But we took it from a Dr in Perambur..

2. oleation therapies with medicated oils along with yoga program at D.O.A.S.T, Madras.... 2 times courses.

Hi,

This information is really helpful.  I will contact the Doctor and take appointment for my Son today itself.

Many Doctors had told me that constant interaction and counselling would do miracles and in your sister's case, she has done it.  Only Mothers can do wonders.  In my case, my wife does not take any interest in him.

Can you please tell me in detail about point no. 2, you have mentioned.

I have a seventeen year old autistic son. He has been home schooled all these years. He has been on Homeopathy, Ayurveda, acupuncture, special diet etc, He has not improved much with all this. I want to make him more independent since I worry about his future after our time. Is there any group home or residential school which would provide him with a career for his future?

Hi All,

I have a 5 plus kid who is speech delayed...He talks but most of it   is need based...He has good eye contact, writes well, understands commands...but most of the time is fidgety...he lacks attention....He seems disinterested in other children..but wen few of his cousins come over..i.e..people known to him, then he expresses the need to play and be with them.....

I have approached so many doctors ...some say hes attention deficit, while few say he possesses autistic traits....I gave him homeopathy for few mths...but noticed behavioural issues in him were increasing...I stopped them..I took him for occupational therapy, speech therapy...but somehow things didnt improve.....I discontinued them too.......

Iam not able to gauge the problem in him...Academically he s doing well, but social interaction is missing...He has no issues being lonely...he writes ,colours..keeps himself busy but never demands for company....He expresses the need to play with me n his father.....He is far behind than his peers in his language development.....

He looks v v normal..My fears r mounting.....I try to talk to him,but he seems so disinterested in talking.....Talking is just not his cup of tea........Can any one guide me on this.......?Is he an autistic kid or its a develpmental delay which will settle with time......All his other milestones were on time....As a child he grew up alone....I always felt language delay was due to this......But now since hes 5 plus,Iam so worried.........abt his schooling, his future.....I wud appreciate views on this...............

Neethi if I was were I would'nt that concerned, your child has social issues, and may be in the spectrum, but he has achieved all the other milestone. Social issues should never be ignored but with proper care he can sure come out of it, have you heard about socials stories, there was a recent workshop on social skills for autistics kids in bangalore. Definitely provide him with good behavior modifications. I have a child in the spectrum his speech is still at 1 year old, he is 3.6 now. We are working towards his delays and he has been making great progress.
